This morning I sat down to type this post out with a whole different post in mind and just as I started to focus to write she walked out into the living room and said “I got dressed” and sure enough…she has on a pair of jeans and a long sleeved shirt! An added bonus: IT MATCHES!!
In the last few months we have been working on letting her pick out her own clothes and get dressed on her own. I have to admit she has come up with some interesting outfits!!
This is one of our most recent outfits. It is very cold in Southern Wisconsin so we threw a white long sleeve and jeans under it and out we went!
(This is supposed to be a skirt with shorts under it…but she turned the shorts into a shirt)
Yes, I am THAT Mom…the one you stare and go “you let your kid go out in public dressed like that?!?” All I can say is YES!! As long as it is appropriate for the weather we are good to go. Why? Because she did it by HERSELF!!!

It’s good to let kids dress themselves that’s the only way they will learn how to do it. My boy still prefers if I lay clothes out for him as he always just throws on whatever… The girls want to do everything themselves and are usually overdressed for the day. But like you said… they did it themselves!!!
I think it is awesome children feel like they are awesome when they do something right and allowing her to wear out what she picked is a wonderful way of telling her that she did a good job.
